This is how it should go for siegward: -Save greirat from the cell below Tower on the wall bonfire. -Get loretta bone and give to greirat. -Send him to undead settlement to pillage, kill a boss and he is back at firelink. -In the cathedral open all shortcuts, and also open the big front door from inside to make Patches appear.. If you want to send Patches, send Greirat, reload firelink, then send Patches, reload firelink to make sure he's gone, then go on. If there is no rescue plan in place, by the time you reach the sewers (maybe earlier), Greirat is dead.
